December 26th - 31st, 2009
6 Days/5 Nights
|
Day 1
Leave from your departure city for
Halifax, Nova Scotia. Upon arrival the
team will pick up its 15 passenger van and transfer to your hotel for
the next 5 evenings, the
Holiday Inn Select
Halifax Centre, located in the heart of Halifax.
Day 2
First day of the tournament
today.
Later today, maybe take a trip
to
Peggy's Cove.
According to legend, Peggy's
Cove was named after the only survivor of a schooner that ran aground and
sank in 1800...a woman named Margret. Local folk called her "Peggy" and
her home came to be known as Peggy's Cove.
Day 3
Continued tournament play today.
Today, you may choose to visit
the
Maritime Museum of the Atlantic to learn about the Halifax Explosion.
At 7.30 a.m. on December 6, the
French ship Mont-Blanc left her anchorage outside the mouth of the
harbour to join a convoy gathering in Bedford Basin. She was loaded with
2,300 tons of wet and dry picric acid, 200 tons of TNT, 10 tons of gun
cotton and 35 tons of benzol: a highly explosive mixture. At the same time
the Norwegian vessel Imo, in ballast, set off from the Basin bound
for New York to pick up a cargo of relief supplies for Belgium. At the
entrance to the Narrows, after a series of ill-judged manoeuvres, the Imo
struck the Mont-Blanc on the bow.
Although the collision was not severe, fire immediately broke out on board
the Mont-Blanc. The captain, pilot and crew, expecting the ship to blow up
immediately, launched the lifeboats and took refuge on the Dartmouth
shore.
Day 4
Final day of the tournament today.

Day 5
Free day to spend in
Halifax today. Perhaps your group would like to visit the
Halifax Citadel. The Halifax
Citadel has been commemorated as a nationally significant symbol of
Halifax's role as a principal naval station in the British Empire and of
the city's importance to Canada's development and evolution from colony to
nation.
Day 6
Transfer back to the airport in
Halifax for the return flight back to
your original departure city.
